Welcome
back for part 2 of college football week 1. For this post I dug through
the games being played on Friday, and I’ve uncovered a gem. Before I get
into that game though a brief explanation on the strategy deployed early in the
season.
Starting
with my first post of the season outlining Thursdays value plays, I talked a
lot about experience and returning starters. That’s important at the
start of the season because we don’t have any stats to judge a team on
yet. Experience is very important in college football, as these are still
young men adjusting to life in college, especially freshmen. As the
season goes on and more stats are compiled, you get a better feel for who the
team is and what they are capable of doing. Plus, lets face it, at the end
of the season there is no such thing as young/inexperienced, so I will focus
more on stats than personnel. Now on to Fridays gem.
Charlotte
at Georgia St -7.5:
Let’s
be honest, these are quite possibly the 2 worst teams at the FBS level.
Georgia State is in their 3rd year at this level and have only won 1
game. Charlotte is new to FBS, and is actually only in it’s 3rd
year of existence. However, Charlotte does have 17 returning starters,
and that is a huge benefit when playing on the road. Georgia State is
also returning 17 starters. My power ratings actually have Charlotte
rated slightly better than Georgia State, and even giving GSU 2 points for home
field that at worst puts Charlotte as a 2 point dog. Looking at the past
couple of years Charlotte has won and Georgia State has not, in fact their only
win in the past 2 years is against an FCS foe. The bottom line is there
is no way a full touchdown separates these 2 teams. I’m not sure that
Charlotte can pull off the upset, but they will keep this a close game.
Thanks
for stopping by. Good luck if you choose to use this information for
anything. If you like what I’m doing, tell you friends. If you
don’t like what I have to say, tell your enemy, I don’t care just tell
someone. Check back later for the weekend
picks.
