College Football Boca Raton Bowl

The Bowl season got off to a good start, as picks for Saturday went 2-1.  Appalachian State blew it in the 2nd half, they still got the win, but we didn’t get the cover.  Oh well, that’s why they play 60 minutes.  Today I’m breaking down the Boca Raton bowl, and including a pick for that game.

Toledo (+3) vs Temple
Boca Raton Bowl, Boca Raton FL
I’m all over Toledo on this game.  I’m not sure why Temple is favored, but the line has moved more than a couple of points on this game, so looks like money is being put on Temple.  That’s okay, I’ll take more points with Toledo.  In this game I keep going back to Temple and how they’ve played on the road.  They’ve lost their last 2 road games, and really only had 1 solid performance on the road, and that was at East Carolina.  Even in that ECU game they were outgained, but Temple won the turnover battle and that secured the victory.  Temple’s troubles on the road are on the defensive side of the ball.  Total yardage allowed in road games this year: 557, 438, 354, 378, 397, 556, 339.  Not really slowing anybody down there.  And yes I know it’s not a true road game, but they do have to travel, and they’ve proven that the defense doesn’t always make the trip.  Toledo’s offense shows up every game.  They are averaging 463 yards per game and 454 yards per game on the road.  They have the #29 rated offense in the nation and the #53 defense.  Temple has the #94 rated offense and the #18 defense, but that defensive rating is mostly due to performance at home.  Plus, Temple won’t be able to focus on stopping one aspect of Toledo’s offense, as the Rockets are balanced averaging 213 rushing yards and 250 passing yards per game.  I’m taking the Rockets, and the points.

Good Luck.
